Available Program

  • Culinary Arts

    The Culinary Arts program is designed to prepare students to work in professional food serving facilities in both the public and private sectors. Students “learn by doing” the practical side of professional food preparation. Areas of study include: professionalism, knife skills, mise en place, butchering, cooking techniques, food preparation, food purchasing/specifications, healthy cooking/nutrition, baking, menu planning/costing, kitchen management, inventory control, catering, and production of regional and international cuisines. Education occurs in both kitchen and classroom settings. An externship component will allow students to assimilate the knowledge acquired in the program into practical application.

Accreditation

The goal of accreditation is to ensure that education provided by institutions of higher education, like Dorsey Schools, meets or exceeds an acceptable level of quality. Dorsey Schools is proud to have achieved accreditation through the following:

Dorsey Schools is accredited by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education. This applies to the Madison Heights campus (which serves as the main campus) and the Dearborn, Roseville, Saginaw, Southgate, Wayne, and Waterford-Pontiac campuses (which are branch campus locations of Madison Heights).

Dorsey School of Beauty Taylor is institutionally accredited by the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts and Sciences (NACCAS) and serves as a main campus.

The Culinary Arts program, available at the Roseville campus, is accredited by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation’s (ACFEF) Accrediting Commission.
